How much is Enough?
"We make a living by what we get, but we make a living by what we give." - Winston Churchill
Paul Tillich, in his book Theology of Culture, tells a story about Cain and Abel. And whom, his own sibling and blood killed to gain. Fracticide, brother killing brother.
Tillich alludes to two strands of thought on these questions: on the one hand, freedom to choose to do good; and on the other hand, compulsion toward doing evil- to steal, lie, cheat, and murder.
This question; which cuts to the heart of human nature, is not best served by an either or answer. Humans have have succeeded in both universes.
But, Tillich describes,
" An is supposed to be the master of the world and of himself. But actually he has become a part of the reality that he has created, an object among objects, a thing among things, a cog within a universal machine in which he must adapt himself to in order not to be smashed by it."
